About Nasha Mukt Vidyalaya
Nasha Mukt Vidyalaya is a national initiative under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan aimed at promoting safe, healthy, tobacco- and substance-free environments in schools across India. It encourages schools to adopt preventive measures that discourage the use of tobacco, alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances while promoting healthy lifestyles among students.
The initiative integrates the existing Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (TOFEI) guidelines framework, including its defined criteria, and expands its scope under the Three-Year Action Plan (2026–2029) for Nasha Mukt Bharat to address tobacco, alcohol and substance abuse in an integrated manner.

Promotion of Substance-Free Campuses
Promote tobacco- and substance-free schools through a comprehensive and preventive approach.
- Implementation of TOFEI Guidlines : Framework with Extended criteria of Drug-free ZoneImplement the TOFEI framework (Nine Criteria) and an extended criteria of 500-meter Drug-free Zone as the core compliance mechanism for ensuring tobacco and substance-free schools.
- Alignment with Three-Year Action Plan (2026–2029) : expand the scope of preventive efforts beyond tobacco to include alcohol, drugs,and other addictive substances, in alignment with the Three-Year Action Plan (2026–2029) for Nasha Mukt Bharat.
- Utilization of Nasha Mukt Vidyalaya Portal : Utilize the Nasha Mukt Vidyalaya Portal as a unified platform for institutional registration, self-assessment, monitoring, and reporting.
- Awareness and Preventive Education : Create awareness among students, teachers, and parents on the harmful effects of tobacco, alcohol, and substance abuse through sustained IEC and out reach activities.
- Institutional Measures and Compliance : Encourage schools to adopt standard preventive measures, including signage,monitoring systems, and institutional policies based on the TOFEI checklist.
- Capacity Building of Stakeholders : Strengthen the capacity of teachers and school authorities to identify risks, provide guidance, and promote healthy behavioural practices among students.
- Student Engagement and Participation : Promote student engagement through awareness campaigns, peer-led initiatives,and participatory activities that reinforce substance-free lifestyles.
- Monitoring and Sustainability : Institutionalize monitoring and compliance mechanisms within schools to ensure sustained adherence to substance-free norms.
- Contribution to National Vision : Support national efforts towards building a Nasha Mukt Bharat by aligning institutional actions with policy directives and the Three-Year Action Plan.
