SUMMER BREAK ACTIVITIES – GUIDELINES FOR TEACHERS

• Class teachers have to create Whats app groups with their class students.
• Ask them to maintain a notebook for summer activities and submit at the time of reopening.
• Keep in touch with the students and encourage them from time to time to monitor their activities.
• Gather students activities in the form of pics/videos/reports through Whats app group

• Music, Dance and Drama :

Select a music/dance/drama of their own culture or local tradition where a group of people (Peer/siblings/other family members) come together to develop the child’s aesthetic sense. Example: Folk or traditional songs/dance can be recorded from their area using some musical instruments involving their siblings, friends and family members.

Once there was a miser who sold all his possessions and, with the money, bought a great lump of gold, dug a deep hole at the edge of the garden, and there he buried his gold. Once a day, thereafter, the miser went to the garden, dug up his gold, and embraced it lovingly. One of the miser’s workmen wondered why his master spent so much time in the garden. One day, he hid behind a tree and soon discovered the secret of the hidden treasure. That night, when the miser was fast asleep, the workman crept into the garden and stole the lump of gold. When the miser found that his gold was gone, he tore his hair and cried aloud in his despair. A neighbour came running to see what the matter was, and the grief-stricken miser told him what had happened. Then the neighbours said, “Pray to stop your weeping. Go and find a stone. ACTIVITY 2. ENGLISH Passage

One day Nandu rode his horse to the village fair. On his way back he met Somendra, the merchant. The merchant was a crafty man, ready to do anything to earn some money. The villagers knew this. In fact no one knew what trick he would be up to next. Now, Nandu was poor and had no one in the world to call his own except a beautiful, white horse. He loved it more than anything else in the world. The merchant had his eye on the horse for a long time and tried to think of a way to get it for himself. Seeing Nandu, the merchant thought, Nandu is a simpleton. Let me see if I can trick him out of his horse. So he said to Nandu, You live all alone. How do you manage? What does a young boy like you need with a horse? Sell it to me and I shall make you rich in return. Nandu replied, “No I don’t want to sell my horse.”

But the merchant refused to give up so easily. He offered Nandu more money. Finally, when the offer reached five hundred gold coins, Nandu paused and said. Five hundred gold coins seems like a good price. But I have a condition. If you agree to it, I shall give you my horse. “What is it?”, the merchant asked impatiently. “Give me the money right now and I shall give you my horse when I have given you ten lashes.” After all he would resell the horse for over a thousandgold coins in the market. He would take twenty lashes for such a gain. He agreed instantly. He ran home and got the money for Nandu and brought along his whip as well. Nandu counted the money carefully. He then took the whip and the lashes fell on the merchant’s back in quick succession. By the eighth lash the merchant was almost in tears but he told himself that there were only two lashes to go and the horse would be his. The merchant held his breath waiting for the final lashes. But Nandu had mounted his horse and was riding off. “Wait!”, shouted the merchant in anger. “What about the last lashes? Where are you going with the horse? We had a deal.

Nandu stopped and said, “I agree to give you the horse only after I had given you ten lashes. But it is upsetting my horse. I’ll give you the last lashes later. Till then goodbye!” “Come back you cheat!”, the merchant shouted. But the crowd that had gathered around agreed with Nandu. A deal was a deal. Till the last lash was given, the horse could not belong to the merchant. Nandu rode away richer by five hundred gold coins and Somendra waited in vain for several days for the final lash which never came.

ఒక ఊరిలో భాస్కర శర్మ, కమలమ్మ అనే బ్రాహ్మణ దంపతులు ఉండేవారు. వారు ధాన, ధర్మాలు చేసేవారు. వారు ఎంతో దయగలవారు. వారికి కొంత కాళం వరకు పిల్లలు కలగలేదు. పిల్లల కొరకు ఎన్నో పూజలు, నోములు, వ్రతాలు చేసేవారు. వారి పూజలు ఫలించి పండంటి బిడ్డ జన్మించాడు. ఆ బిడ్డని ఎంతో ప్రేమగా, అల్లారుముద్దుగా చూసుకునేవారు. ఒకరోజు భాస్కర శర్మ పక్క ఊరికి వెళ్ళి వస్తుండగా దారిలో ఒక ముంగిస కనిపించింది. దానిని చూసి అక్కడ నిలబడ్డాడు బ్రాహ్మణుడు. ముంగిస అతని దగ్గరకు వచ్చింది. ముంగీసను పట్టుకొని ఇంటికి వెళ్ళి భార్యకు చూపిస్తూ ఇది మన బిడ్డకు తోడుగా ఉంటుంది. “దీనిని మనం పెంచుకుందాం” అని చెప్పాడు. “అవును, అవును మన బిడ్డకు కాపలాగా కూడా వుంటుంది” , అనుకున్నారు. ఆ రోజు నుండి బిడ్డతోపాటు ముంగీసను కూడా చాలా ప్రేమగా పెంచుకుంటున్నారు. ఒకరోజు భాస్కర శర్మ “పూజలు చేయడానికి బయటకి వెళ్తాను బిడ్డ జాగ్రత” అని చెప్పి వెళ్ళాడు. కమలమ్మ కొంత సేపటి తర్వాత ఇంటి పని, వంట పని చేసింది. ముంగీసకు ఆహారం పెట్టింది. బిడ్డకు పాలు ఇచ్చి ఉయ్యాలలో పడుకోపెట్టింది. మంచి నీళ్ళు తేవడానికి బావి వద్ద వెళ్తున్నాను, నేను వచ్చే వరకు బిడ్డని జాగ్రతగా చూసుకోమని ముంగిసతో చెప్పి బిందె పట్టుకొని బయలు దేరింది కమలమ్మ. సరే అనట్టు తల ఊపింది ముంగీస. ఊయలలో పడుకున్న బిడ్డ వద్దనే కాపలా కస్తూ ఉంది ముంగీస. కొద్ది సేపటి తర్వాత నల్లత్రాచు పాము ఊయలలో ఉన్న బిడ్డ వద్దకు రావడం గమనించి ఒక్కసారి ఎగిరి పాముని పట్టుకొని కొరికి చంపింది. ముంగీస మూతికి ఆ రక్తం ఉంది. బిడ్డని కాపాడిన సంతోశంతో ఇంటికి ఎదురుగా కూర్చొని బిడ్డ తల్లిదండ్రులకు పాము నుండి బిడ్డను కాపాడిన విషయం చెప్పాలనే ఆనందంతో ఉంది. అప్పుడే వచ్చిన కమలమ్మ ముంగీస మూతికి, వంటిపైన ఉన్న రక్తం చూసి ఇంట్లో ఎవరు లేని సమయం చూసి నా బిడ్డని చంపేసింది అని బోరున విలపించింది. నమ్మినందుకు ఇంత పని చేసిందంటు ఆవేశంలో నీటి బిందెను ముంగీస పై విసిరింది. ఆ దెబ్బకు ముంగీస విలవిలా కొట్టుకొని చనిపోయింది. ఏడ్చుకుంటూ లోపలికి వెళ్ళేసరికి బిడ్డ ఊయలలో క్షేమంగా ఆడుకుంటూ కేరింతలు పెడ్తున్నాడు. పక్కనే కింద పెద్ద నల్లత్రాచు పాము చచ్చిపడింది. అది గమనించిన ఆ దంపతులు మన బిడ్డ ప్రాణాలు కాపాడిన ముంగీసను మన చేతులతోనే చంపేశాము అనుకుంటూ బోరున విలపించారు.

నీతి: ఆవేశంలో తీసుకునే నిర్ణయం అనార్థాలకు దారి తీస్తుంది.

 The Ant and The Grasshopper

A grasshopper was jumping around in a field one summer day, chirping and singing its heart out. An ant went by, dragging a grain of corn to his nest with much difficulty.

“Rather than toiling away your life, why don’t you come and chat with me?” the Grasshopper suggested!

“I’m helping with the storage of food for the winter, and I suggest that you do the same.” the Ant added.

The Grasshopper asked, “Why care about winter?  At the moment, we have plenty of food.”

The Ant, on the other hand, resumed its struggles. When winter arrived, the Grasshopper died of starvation while the ants distributed maize and grain from the stocks they had accumulated during the summer.

Moral of the story: Every struggle and hard work leads to a fruitful result
