SUMMER BREAK ACTIVITIES – GUIDELINES FOR TEACHERS

• Class teachers have to create Whats app groups with their class students.
• Ask them to maintain a notebook for summer activities and submit at the time of reopening.
• Keep in touch with the students and encourage them from time to time to monitor their activities.
• Gather students activities in the form of pics/videos/reports through Whats app group

• Music, Dance and Drama :

Select a music/dance/drama of their own culture or local tradition where a group of people (Peer/siblings/other family members) come together to develop the child’s aesthetic sense. Example: Folk or traditional songs/dance can be recorded from their area using some musical instruments involving their siblings, friends and family members.

ACTIVITY 2 :  Types of Nouns

Nouns can be broadly classified into:

1. Proper Nouns: Nouns that are used to name a person, place or thing specifically are called a proper noun. Proper nouns always begin with a capital letter.

Examples:

1. 1. • My name is Rose. (Name of a particular person)
      • This is my dog, Bruno. (Name of a specific pet animal owned by someone)
      • David came back from Minsk. (Name of a specific place)
      • Louis Philippe is a famous brand of men’s clothing. (Name of a particular clothing brand)

2. Common nouns: Common nouns are those nouns that refer to a generic item, group or place. This means that, unlike proper nouns, they are not used to identify specific people, places or objects. Common nouns are not capitalised unless they appear at the beginning of a sentence.

Examples:

1. 1. • I bought a pen yesterday. (Common object)
      • I am going to school. (Common place)
      • Only ten employees showed up to work today. (Common group)
      • The car is out of fuel. (Common items)

3. Singular nouns: These are words that are used to name a single person, place, animal, bird or object.

Examples:

1. 1. • There is a little boy in front of our house. (Single person)
      • That is my daughter. (Single person)
      • I found a wounded sparrow in the bush. (Single bird)
      • A red van has been following us for a long time. (Single object)

4. Plural nouns: Plural nouns refer to a number of people, places, animals or things. Nouns are made plural by adding an ‘s’ or ‘es’ or ‘ies’ or ‘ves’ to the existing root word. Nouns that end with an ‘s’ remain the same. Some nouns remain the same in both their singular and plural forms, and some others have totally different spelling.

Examples:

1. 1. • I need some apples.
      • Did you find the boxes you were looking for?
      • I bought mangoes from the market.
      • We took photos of some deer on our way.

5. Countable nouns are those nouns that can be counted or measured.

Examples:

1. 1. • Tom brought ten packets of lays for the trip. (specific number – ten)
      • Mom asked me to buy a dozen eggs. (specific – dozen means twelve)
      • I saw an aeroplane around seven in the morning. (specific – an means one)

6. Uncountable nouns are those nouns that cannot be counted. This category of nouns includes both concrete and abstract nouns.

Examples:

1. 1. • I have a lot of homework to do. (Not specific)
      • I have a cup of tea. (Cannot count)
      • We are facing terrible weather today. (Cannot count)

7. Collective Nouns: A collective noun is a naming word that is used to denote a group of objects, animals or people.

Examples:

1. 1. • Collective nouns for groups of animals
        • A pride of lions
        • A flock of sheep
        • A swarm of bees
        • A herd of elephants
      • Collective nouns for groups of people
        • A band of musicians
        • A board of directors
        • A crew of sailors
        • A company of actors
      • Collective nouns for a number of things/objects
        • A pair of shoes
        • A chain of mountains
        • A fleet of ships
        • A bunch of grapes

8. Concrete Nouns: A concrete noun refers to objects that are material and can be perceived by the human senses.

Examples:

1. 1. • The book is on the table.
      • I had a cup of coffee.
      • Sharon opened the windows.
      • Hardy goes to school by bus.

9. Abstract Nouns: Any entity that cannot be perceived by the five senses of the human body are called an abstract noun.

Examples:

1. • Love is a strong emotion.
   • Honesty is the best policy.
   • It takes a lot of courage to raise your voice and stand up against injustice.
   • You should not misuse the freedom you are given.

Clever Tortoise Story/తెలివైన తాబేలు:

ఒక అడవిలో ని చెరువులు ఒక తాబేలు ఉండే ది. ఒకరోజు సాయంత్రం అది నీటిలోంచి బయటకు వచ్చి ఒడ్డున నెమ్మదిగా తిరగసాగింది.

ఇంతలో అక్కడికి ఒక నక్క వచ్చింది దాన్ని చూసి నీటిలోకి వెళ్ళిపోవాలనుకుంది తాబేలు. కానీ ఇంతలో నక్క దాన్ని చూసింది.

వెంటనే తాబేలు కాళ్లు తల లోపలికి లాక్కొని కదలకుండా ఉండి పోయింది. నక్క-తాబేలు దగ్గరికి వెళ్లి దాన్ని పట్టుకొని చూసింది పైన డొప్ఫ గట్టిగా తగిలింది.

తాబేలును తిరిగేసి మూతిని దగ్గరగా పెట్టింది ఇలా నక్క తనని పరీక్షిస్తున్న ఎంతసేపు తాబేలు ప్రాణాలు అరచేతిలో పెట్టుకుని ఊపిరి బిగపట్టుకొని ఉన్నది.

ఊపిరి బిగపట్టుకొని ఉన్నది ఇంతలో దానికి ఒక ఉపాయం తట్టింది. దాంతో ధైర్యం చేసి తలా కొంచెం బయట పెట్టింది అయ్యో నక్క బావ నువ్వు ఎన్ని తిప్పలు పడ్డా నా శరీరంలో ఇతర మాంస మైనా తినలేవు అంది తాబేలు.

ఎందుకలా అన్నదో అర్థం కాక నక్క అయోమయంగా చూసింది. తాబేలు మళ్లీ నా శరీరం తీరే అంత నా అక్క బావ నీటిలోనుంచి పైకి రాగానే గాలి తగిలి గట్టిపడి పోతాను,

మళ్లీ నీళ్లు తగిలాయి అనుకో వెంటనే మెత్తబడ్డ తాను అందుకే నువ్వు నన్ను కాసేపు ఆ నీటిలో నానబెట్టి ఆ తర్వాత కడుపారా తినొచ్చు అని చెప్పింది.

అసలే జిత్తులమారి నక్క మహా తెలివైనది కదా తాబేలు మాటలు నమ్మి నమ్మి అన్నట్టుగానే తల ఊపింది తాబేలు ను నీటిలో ఉంచి పారిపోకుండా కాలితో నొప్పి పెట్టింది.

కాసేపయ్యాక తాబేలు తెలివిగా నక్క బావ నేను పూర్తిగా నాను కానీ నువ్వు కాలు పెట్టిన చోట నాన్న లేదు అన్నది.

దాంతో నక్క కాలు రవ్వంత పక్కకు జరుపుతామని కాస్త పైకి లేపింది. అందుకోసమే కాచుకుని కూర్చున్న తాబేలు బతుకు జీవుడా అనుకుంటూ చటుక్కున నీటిలోకి జారిపోయింది.

The Monkey and The Crocodile

Once upon a time, there lived a monkey on a mango tree on the banks of a river. The mangoes of that tree were the sweetest of all. The tree bore fruits year-round. The monkey used to live very happily on the tree eating the tasty fruits and playing on the tree.

On a particular day, a crocodile came near that mango tree. He seemed very exhausted. The monkey offered him some delicious mangoes from the tree. The crocodile loved those mangoes and thanked the monkey for the same. From then on, the crocodile used to visit the monkey every day and they became good friends.

One day the crocodile thought to take some mangoes for his wife. When his wife ate the mangoes, she demanded something very absurd from the crocodile. She said that these fruits are so tasty, then how delicious will be the heart of that monkey who regularly eats these mangoes!

She ordered the crocodile to bring the monkey’s heart for her. The crocodile was shocked at her demand. The monkey was his friend. How could he betray him? He declined to kill the monkey and bring his heart to her.

The crocodile’s wife was adamant about getting the monkey’s heart. She told the crocodile that she is not keeping well and the doctor has recommended her to eat a monkey’s heart to recover. She even threatened him that if the crocodile didn’t get the monkey’s heart for her, she would surely die. The crocodile had to give in to her order.

With a heavy heart, the crocodile left to get the monkey. He went to the monkey and said, “Friend, my wife loved the mangoes sent by you. She has invited you to our house to thank you.” The monkey agreed and sat on the crocodile’s back so that the crocodile could take him to his house.

In the middle of the river, the crocodile began sinking in. The monkey got frightened and he asked the crocodile as to why he was sinking. The crocodile, knowing that now there was no escape for the monkey, replied, “Forgive me, my friend. My wife needs to eat your heart to save her life. That’s why I am taking you with me.”

The monkey was outraged. The monkey was smart. He kept calm and told the crocodile that he would be more than happy to save his wife’s life but he left his heart at the mango tree. The monkey told him that they can quickly go and get his heart from the tree.

The crocodile accepted it at once and turned back. As soon as they reached the tree, the monkey jumped onto the tree and said, “O foolish crocodile, how can someone take out his heart and keep it somewhere else? You have deceived me as a friend. Now go and never come back. The ashamed crocodile went back to his home.

Moral of the Story :

Quick Intelligence can save you from problems.
